Sally Borden School
Summer Program

Friends Academy Admission Process

Applying to Friends Academy is easy:

  • Schedule a visit with Katherine Gaudet (kgaudet@friendsacademy1810.org) to become acquainted and take a tour of Friends.

  • We will schedule a student visit for one day. Some testing in reading and math will be done that day.

  • Students applying to our Early Childhood program must be three years of age by September l

  • Students applying to kindergarten must be five years of age by September 1.
1. Parent/Guardian visit

We want to hear about your child and your hopes and dreams for his or her education. Parent/Guardian conversations and school tours are given on Monday through Friday.

2. Application

If you feel that Friends is a good fit for your child, fill out the Application for Admission either online or on paper.  There is a $50 application fee. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

3. School Reports/Teacher Evaluation

We will send a Student Records Release form and the  Teacher Evaluation form to your child’s current school. These documents will need to be signed by you to give us permission to submit them.

4. Student Visits

Arrange for your child to visit the school. Social visits are a vital part of the application process.

Applicants to grades one through eight are invited to spend a day in a class of their current grade peers. On that day, an applicant participates in all school activities and also spends some time with a member of the Admissions Committee.

Applicants to kindergarten are invited to spend an entire morning with their age peers in our Early Childhood program, while applicants to Early Childhood come for an hour-long group play visit.

Applicants to the Sally Borden Programvisit appropriate grade-level classes during a two-day visit. This affords teachers numerous opportunities to observe students in a variety of settings, and allows students to feel more comfortable with their surroundings.

5. Admissions Testing (not required if applying to the Sally Borden Program)

Students applying to kindergarten through grade eight are assessed by Admissions staff on the day of their visit.

6. Notification of admissions decisions

The Admissions Committee reviews all completed applications. Decision letters are mailed by March 10 to families who have completed the admissions process. Financial aid applicants are notified at the same time regarding aid. We ask that families notify Friends Academy by April 10 of their decision to accept placement for the fall. Earlier notification is greatly appreciated so that wait pool candidates can be informed of openings as soon as possible. After April 10, as spaces permit, new applicant files are reviewed when completed.
