’23 Alum Published in Student Philosophy Journal
Congrats to alum Sam Wsol ’23 for being published in the Fall 2023 issue of Questions: Philosophy for Young People, a pre-college philosophy journal by the Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization (PLATO). Questions publishes the work of K-12 students interested in philosophical issues, including stories, essays, poems, photographs, and drawings.
In this essay from Dr. Kenyon’s eighth grade Latin class last winter, Sam explored the theme of community by reflecting upon the writings of medieval writer Christine de Pizan. After being widowed young, de Pizan proceeded to support her family through her writing career — a significant accomplishment for a woman in the 14th century. The class studied her 1405 work Book of the City of Ladies, an allegorical dialogue which challenges widespread misogyny by detailing ladies’ virtues.
