How is Friends Academy’s campus used?

The outdoors is an integral part of the Friends Academy experience – from daily recess to outdoor classes to interscholastic athletics. Take a look at our campus map to explore the trails, fields, and more.

Campus Features

    Daily Recess

    Every student has recess twice per day, when they can run and play on fields, playgrounds, and outdoor basketball courts.

    Walks in the Woods

    Students, teachers, and staff often take hikes in the woods along a mile of wooded trails and boardwalks.

    Science Experiments and Investigations

    Science classes use campus as a natural laboratory for bird surveys, vernal pool explorations, and river water sampling.

    Learning in the Outdoors

    Beyond science, classes including art, literature, and PE frequently head outside for their studies – whether that’s collecting natural materials, group read-alouds in the grass, or soccer games on the upper field.

    Working Garden

    All students spend some time working in the campus garden, where they help to grow and maintain vegetables to donate to local food pantries.

    Two Fields for Team Sports

    Students, campers, and outside sports groups use the upper and lower athletic fields for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and more.

    Challenge Course

    Deeper in the woods lies a Challenge Course with both high and low elements. Both are used by students as well as outside groups for team building activities.

    The Paskamanset River weaves along the campus’ northern edge, offering a variety of natural features for students to learn about science and the environment.
