Home Admissions Affording Friends Academy

“I’m reminded on a daily basis that this is the best and most rewarding investment we can make as a family.”

Parent of Lower School students

A Friends Academy education is an investment in your child’s lifelong success and well-being. Tuition pays for the caring teachers, small class sizes, and quality facilities that make Friends a special place where students grow and thrive.

Need-based tuition assistance helps make a Friends education a reality for approximately half of our families. Welcoming students and families from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds into our community is critical to our mission to raise responsible citizens who respect diversity and differences. We do not want any family to be deterred from applying based on cost alone.

Optional After-School Program care (offered until 5:00pm every day) and chef-made school lunches (offered each day) are an additional fee, which can be paid as part of the tuition bill.

A non-refundable deposit is required with each student’s enrollment agreement. This deposit is applied to the student’s annual tuition fee. Families can pay tuition in one, two, 10, or 12 interest-free installments, depending on what works best for their finances. The Tuition Refund Plan (1.6% of annual tuition fee) is required for all new families unless tuition is paid in one full payment.

Tuition Assistance

Friends Academy offers limited need-based tuition assistance. Grants range from 10% to 80% of the full price of tuition, with the average grant being 51% of tuition. When granting tuition assistance, we consider financial need as well as the potential contribution of a prospective student and family to our community.

We partner with a third party platform called Clarity to determine each family’s affordable tuition level. Clarity gathers information about your unique financial circumstances including income, expenses, assets, debts, number of dependents, and number of children in tuition-charging schools.

Because of our limited budget, we cannot offer tuition assistance to every family who applies for it. We expect every family to contribute financially to tuition expenses in some way.

How to Apply

If your family truly can’t afford to invest in the full cost of tuition, or you aren’t sure whether your family would qualify for need-based tuition assistance, please complete an online tuition assistance application to get started. Many families are surprised to learn they qualify for some amount of tuition assistance.

  • Returning families typically receive a similar level of tuition assistance each year as long as their financial situation doesn’t change significantly.
  • Complete your tuition assistance application by February 1 each year.
  • Tuition assistance notifications are sent out along with re-enrollment agreements.

For step-by-step support in completing your application, please review the Clarity Family Application Guide.
