Kennedy, Ben - Portrait

Ben Kennedy

Head of School

“He says hi every day. He’s always standing there to greet us at All-School Meeting. I like his energy – he’s really positive. He’s a good leader.”

Sua, sixth grade

Favorite Book (Children’s or Otherwise): This is a loaded question for a former English and social studies teacher! I love to read, and have long enjoyed disappearing into a good book. If you were asking my middle school self, I might say A Sense of Where You Are by John McPhee. If you were asking my high school self, I might say anything by Ernest Gaines. One of my favorite books to teach was Pride and Prejudice. My favorite children’s books include Miss Rumphius, Last Stop on Market Street, and A Sick Day for Amos McGee.

What is your favorite thing about working at Friends Academy? Being together at All-School Meeting is one of the highlights of my week. I look forward to all that our community has to share, to singing together, to seeing even our youngest students up in front of their school. I walk out of the Commons each Wednesday marveling at our community!

What do you love to do outside of school? I grew up in the country, and despite living in cities like Houston, Texas, being active and getting outside continue to be really important to me. From building stone walls to mountain biking to cross country skiing, I’m always happy when I’m in motion and breathing fresh air. As our own children get older, these are also the ways that we spend time together as a family.

Do you have children who attend(ed) Friends Academy? Emma ‘26, Gibson ‘28, and Evelyn ‘31
