Free Literacy Screenings
Friends Academy holds free literacy screenings for students in grades K-6 once a month (September to June) on our North Dartmouth, Massachusetts campus. During the 45-minute screenings, children are administered various assessments that are tailored to their current developmental and/or grade level.
Screenings are intended to help families discover if their child may have a learning need that should be further evaluated. Using our recommendations for evaluators and educational advocates, families can get answers and make decisions about appropriate educational choices for their child.
Comprehensive Evaluations
In addition to screenings, Sally Borden Connect provides comprehensive assessments in the areas of language, literacy, and math. Our assessments complement neuropsychological evaluations, which often have long waitlists, and can give families and educators critical information about a child’s learning profile sooner. We offer the following types of formal assessment:
Language & Literacy Evaluation: a thorough examination of skills that support the acquisition of literacy skills, such as vocabulary development, listening comprehension, phonological processing, decoding, encoding, reading fluency, and written expression. Can be used to formally diagnose dyslexia.
Math Learning Evaluation: a thorough examination of skills involved in math learning, such as math fact retrieval, numeric and spatial memory, perceptual estimation skills, linguistic math concepts, and number sense development. Can be used to formally diagnose dyscalculia.
