For students in Grades 1-8 with language-based learning differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia) and identified vulnerabilities in written expression.

SBP Academic Camp Descriptions
Orton-Gillingham is a diagnostic and prescriptive Structured Literacy approach that uses multisensory techniques to help learners who struggle with reading and spelling.
Each day introduces a new concept, such as a syllable type or spelling generalization, which students practice applying to their reading and spelling. Lessons may also include listening activities to develop phonological awareness skills (depending on the class’s needs).
Additional elements of Structured Literacy help reinforce concepts and provide a well-balanced program. These may include Readers Theater, shared reading, grammar, written expression, and games. During independent practice, students may also receive support through computer-based programs designed to target individualized goals in reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and decoding.

- Multiple classes will be offered to accommodate different reading levels.
- All students are assessed to determine what concepts to prioritize during both group and independent learning.
- Optional conferences to discuss student progress will be held on Friday, August 7.
Math & Writing Skills Maintenance
• Afternoons 12:30-3pm
• 2 or 4 days per week from June 29 to August 7
Courses specifically designed to address the needs of students with language-based learning differences and/or vulnerabilities.
The highly structured and supportive environment of these classes will allow students to review skills they have previously learned and front-load new strategies for school in the fall. Teachers will use informal diagnostic assessments and daily warm-up exercises to gauge each student’s progress.
Afternoons (12:30-3pm)
• Grades 3-5: Mondays and Wednesdays
• Grades 6-8: Tuesdays and Thursdays
The Writing Maintenance Course is designed for students who struggle to express their ideas in writing. With explicit instructions and guided practice, students will plan, organize, generate, and revise their ideas to apply foundational writing skills and produce a variety of written pieces.
Afternoons (12:30-3pm)
• Grades 3-5: Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Grades 6-8: Mondays and Wednesdays
Designed for students who need extra support in math, this course will review essential math concepts to build fluency, mitigate summer regression, and increase confidence. Topics include basic operations, geometry, measurement, and problem solving (including picture-drawing strategies and understanding the language of word problems).
Brain Builders – Executive Function Skills Camp (Grades 6-8)
Does your middle schooler need support with planning, prioritizing, and managing time? Stay at FA for Brain Builders during Week 8 (Aug. 10-14). In this engaging, hands-on program designed and led by SBP leadership, students will discover strategies to boost their executive functions — including organization, focus, and flexible thinking — just in time for school this fall!

All SBP Academic Camps run for a six-week session from Monday, June 29 to Friday, August 7 (Summer at Friends Academy camp weeks 2-7). Choose camps marked for the grade your child will enter in Fall 2026.
